In Topic: Gameplay magazine (EU) Jagged alliance back in action review !

02 February 2012 - 03:48 AM

Hm. Okay. That is weird. There's an embargo for reviews up to 6. February. And this seems to be a print magazine (I don't really know). Which means the deadline for articles was back in January. Which would mean they wrote the review based upon the preview-code. Thanks for the information anyways.

I bought the Magazine on the 30th of January at the local magazine kiosk.
It's the magazine for the month February.
Glen Vranckx reviewed the game.
He sums up some things that captured his attention in the end conclusion for instance NPC's regularly block your path if you want to enter of leave a building etc, and yes the weapons issue.
It's stated that the AI makes foolish decisions regularly during combat.
controlling the inventory and items is very exhaustive and tiring.
As soon as you are dropped into a combat zone you know where the enemies are (duh) and you end up with a Commandos(game) kind of battle style in which a small group can take out a map full of enemies.
Arming local militias to keep your locations under control seems pointless cause the AI/game likes to send in Deidranna's heavy military squad repeatedly to recapture.
And uh what's up with the lesbian porno magazine side quest :P

In Topic: Namechange - discussion

I think the name change is a wise move made by the German Bit composer [ironic]wise guys[/ironic].
Yes it will keep (for those that really hate where this game is heading) the dream alive that some day indeed a really great JA alliance predecessor will emerge, loaded with all of those great JA elements we now have to miss, and without all the added flaws which are being incorporated into this Back in Action [sarcastic]made in Germany[/sarcastic] IT brain fart.
So next year when I buy Gameplay Magazine in my local kiosk and read the review of back in action (which I amuse will be wisely hidden somewhere in the end pages of the magazine) stating that back in action sucks d@#k (even do it showed some promise this year) and it isn't worth my money, I won't loose any sleep over it, nor will I feel sorry for myself nor Bitcomposer.de.
I call that a win win situation.

In Topic: The Anti Real-Time and Pause Movement

@pedrorebelo
I'm very pleased that you are enjoying the Blue Sun mod :D

@everyone that cares
The tactical gameplay of 7.62 is a very good example of how JA2 Reloaded could succeed, but BC needs to learn from the mistakes of that title. 7.62 suffered from a conflict between the developers(Apeiron) and the publishers(1C) which resulted in a somewhat flawed and buggy game that didn't get enough patches and fixes released. The Russian modding community has been able to fix many of the errors, but there are some issues that are not available in the released part of the source code that can't be fixed.

The combat system in 7.62 is very complex and dynamic, the more you play the game you'll notice that. Apeiron spent many years perfecting it and with the short development time BC has announced I fear they will only slightly improve the Hired Guns system, a big mistake in my book.

Another downside of 7.62 is the limited numbers of maps, after playing through the game a few times this gets annoying. I hope JA2 Reloaded has at least as many maps as the original game and doesn't use the same map system as in Hired Guns, that title hadn't enough maps and I got tired of them pretty quickly.

Even if this is "The Anti Real-Time and Pause Movement" thread I just wanted to say that I'm not willing to judge this title yet, I want the privilege to try it, and maybe poke around in the files a bit, before I pass judgment.

Tell me if I am wrong about 7.62 when I say it's a complete complex nightmare !

BTW did any of you people see that new game called APOX made by BlueGiant Interactive ?!
Well I freaked out when I checked that game out.
It's like the already born big brother of JA2 reloaded.
3D graphics being used to cover up a horrible HORRIBLE and I mean horrible RTS.
The people who are building JA2 reloaded should check that game out and then compare it with their own work.
I already woke up a couple of times screaming NO don't let JA2 reloaded be similar !
Let's hope the folks working for bitcomposer will do the same after they checked out APOX and realize their work (JA2 reloaded) is equally worthless and shitty !

and

You are young, or you are so old the memory fails to help you. TB isn't older than RTWP, or RT.
Darklands was a game with RTWP system. Dune II was in realtime. And the two games were released in nineties.
It is not a question of modern or old: it is a question of DIFFERENT game's system. Now you can prefer one and I can prefer the other, but don't try to fool me about age.

About realism in the game, that is another non point. Games are unrealistic. Otherwise I can give you 200.000 Euro and you can conquest for me a little country with the help of maximum 20 mercs. If Kirtar likes I will explain why what he wrote about opening a door in RTWP being more realistic than in TB with interrupt is wrong. But here I think we are loosing the main problem.

Games have to be funny. If many people like to play chess and you had the IP of chess you would try to sell them Checkers calling it "Chess reload" and saying that is a more modern game?

You smoked some nasty crack huh ?!
Games don't have to be funny at all !
If you tempt me enough I will give you a list full of great games that were not funny at all but did cost me my precious hours to complete and replay.
This game doesn't have to be funny either. All those folks talking about the humor and high level of funny are tripping on fond childhood memories.
JA wasn't fun it was cold murder merc style !
The game now in development will be a nightmare and will end up in the budget corner faster then Rambo can kill a whole regiment of Russian soldiers.
And that ain't funny either !
