After playing the demo, how do you feel?

Plan & Go started out cumbersome as hell but it had a certain charm once I figured it out. Enemy highlighting still needs work, spotting enemies firing through windows or inside buildings is a pain in the ass, and there really needs to be a way to toggle foliage and awnings on and off, as at times there is way too much crap on screen between you and your target.
It's a bitch getting a character to move underneath an awning currently. Nothing camera control can't handle but it still feels like more work than it should be.
Overall I pre-ordered the game a week ago and am satisfied enough to keep it.

JA2 is still playable, so there isn't any particular reason for BiA to be a carbon copy of it.

I agree for the most part. IMO, all vanilla JA2 "needs" would be expanded resolutions, maybe some decent 2D graphics tweaking (to support higher res's and where one can differentiate mercs, weapons, etc) or even Silent Storm style graphics update , maybe add BiA's camo system, and an complex AI update.

All in all, my impression of the demo could be summed up as "a good try, but I'll pass."

For the middle poll question, I would've preferred some "Neutral" answer options.

Sorry 'bout that. I just expected people to have some form of opinion on it, either positive or negative. xD My bad, man.

PES isn't bad game, it just feels it should be so much more.It should have been released as a tech demo two years ago.
Well that's how i feel about this game.

We are going to need a configuration file where this can be customized, Hired guns had the same issue until Matrix fixed it.

Although, I suppose... if bitComposer did the effort of accommodating the old JA fans (by including options to turn on FoW, TBS and so on) then they could have ultimately doubled their sales of the game.

Ugh, the demo makes me sad.
My first impression was YAY Fidel is in the demo! I click on his portrait and find out he's Mexican and am let down instantly. Why does he sound Mexican? Why is his voice so bad? Sad. I'm very sad.
I noticed that too and thought it was really bizzare, but it turns out that Fidel is Cuban. I always thought he was Indian/Pakistani.

Yeah, for some reason though, I always thought he's middle eastern for some reason, despite his name being obviously cuban. Maybe it was the accent, it's nothing like any latin accent I've ever heard, but more of the very strong arabic I know.Fidel \f(i)-del\ as a boy's name is pronounced fee-DEL. It is of Latin origin, and the meaning of Fidel is "faithful". The Puritans named boys Faithful, but Fidel is the modern form. Fidel Castro, the revolutionary who became president-for-life of Cuba.
So yeah, I just realized he's latino too haha.

I was very pleasantly surprised, its not JA2 1.13, which i know and love, and am playing trough again as a warmup right now, so that's that. I'm not bringing up FoW or TBS because of that, we're months or even years past discussing that, i'm even getting bothered by every preview or thread i read about the game bringing that up again. Can we talk about the actual game by now, we've only two days left for the steam release.
It took a little while to get used to the planning and going, had about five full squad deaths before i got my first kill, but after getting used to it i guess i like it well enough, some parts of it might be a tad tedious, but i'm quite hopeful this is a deep enough system.
I was also surprised by the AI, something feared in many reviews, and i've seen criticism in threads past the demo release about it too. It didnt strike me. I had flanks happening to me, twice from so far away i didnt notice it until people were bleeding. I even made a bit too much noise behind a wall and got several grenades lobbed over it. Seems fine.
The third thing i was pleasantly surprised by is the humor. I was a bit afraid with seeing the original voice actors go and seeing such bland portraits that seemed 3d just for the sake of it. However, the descriptions of many of the items, including spiders in drawers and stuff like that, brought a quite a few smiles on my face. The JA atmosphere is there, and thats whats most important.
There were some buggy issues, most notably, on auto-load the doors are shut and need to reopen, as well as my first set of orders not being carried out. This means i lose about one second of unpausing every save the game makes, making this feature work quite sub-par. On the other hand, stuff like this, or the screen-edge-scrolling, is stuff that can easily be fixed. It probably will be before the release even.
Just had to register and post a bit of constructive, positive feedback, because the amount of negativity is ruining my anticipation. (Yes, i am looking at you amongst others Peal, have fun! enjoy life!)

I'm curious as the whether the demo has changed the opinions of people for better or for worse. I'm also curious if it has led people to pre-order the game or even cancel their pre-orders.
Please answer to the polls ONLY if you have played the demo thoroughly
But yeah, share your opinions of the demo! Please don't be abusive, be constructive.
Played through the demo. Then pre-ordered it. I like it but without the fog of war, it allows me to preplan my attack vectors, not bad, but it also makes it fairly easy, and for me completely removes some "i dont know how i will get out of this alive" movements from JA2. at the same time. If the devs feel really strongly about fog of war, an option is to remove the red dot until they are detected by your mercs as a compromise, don't draw my attention to them till I need to know about them.
But I would rather them put in a full fog of war. Yes, while it wont let me pre-plan attack vectors, I get to move tactically, and plan attacks on the fly. I do acknowledge that it is a fundamentally different game play style.
