Just curious if we will see "official" real world firearms in 'Jagged Alliance Online' and 'JA2 Reloaded'. I know it sounds mandatory to some, but I know for instance that Ubisoft can't publish any firearm with the "clot" brand in the Tom Clancy Franchize... That's why in the latest Raibow Six and Ghost Recon games it was missing - I don't want to play JA with weapons that are "like" the real ones. In other words I want Scully and Shadow to carry an M4 and not a "Modern Carbine"... Can the devs comment on this please? Cheers!

True, i just hope they have more than one type of glock not just the G18. If they have different series of guns it would be awesome E.g. glock 16 17 18 so far so on, each improving or just becoming better at something diffrent! =D

Can't Edit my Original Post, but of course I was referring to "Colt" and not "Clot"

Agreed. But anyway ja has millions of fans and lots of modders. If guys from bitComposer will make game easy to modify, it will not be a big problem.

Thing is, you can make the guns 'look-like SCAR-H/L' without problems. Just using the real names is what can be a problem. Guess some gun manufactures don't want their guns to be the ones that suck most in a game ;)

There would be awesome to have real gun names shown in the game. And wth those gun-makers should consider lucky for their products are shown in a game.

Real gun names would be great but again, i would rather have the developer spend his budget on making the game more playable than spending money on brand names. Anyways, the modding comunity will surely be able to do this :)

Jeeze, doesn't copyright just ruin everything? Hopefully it won't be an issue and we see the real deal in the game, which is important because it makes it feel more realistic.

I hope copyrights won't be an issue and guns will have their own names. But if it will be -> I agree with CowGod: the only thing that should be modding community will surely take care with that with an "unofficial mod". :P

Well, until the developers make it official. I do think most of the weapons found on JA2 should be in. But with the craze going round in most military organizations around the world to get better fire arms, the companies might get quite touchy on issues like their guns being labeled 'unreliable', 'hard to repair', 'heavy' or even 'inaccurate'. And the game being an MMOG, modding, I assume will not get us anywhere unless it is Jagged Alliance offline.

Seems like for some reason games with licensed guns do a lot better with the military crowd but for JA I'd rather have some realism. I don't think Colt or Smith and Wesson would be too excited to see their product in a game fail to fire at a crucial time, even if it was just carried through a river and dropped in the mud. I don't think this should be a priority. To make JA better the guns have to be balanced, every gun maker would want their gun to be the best. You can't have every gun be equally accurate or reliable. Better to make the game's fans happy then some company whose investment in your game is basically just the text associated with a weapon.

I liked the original gun terms they were all fine to me. Other than the great rocket rifle I'd still prefer the sweet RPK-7 for Scully or better yet my man Lynx! and dont forget the hotty Scope. -Target!

I could care less if the guns have real world names. Just give us a good game in the same way that the original JA games were and you will have done a great thing for the world...oh and allow some mods to be able to tweak and adjust if they feel the need to do so.

Hello
Weaponry was always my favourite atribute in JA, all of my passion to guns started by playing JA2 :)
What about those licenses? Do developers have them, or guns will have alternative names?
Alternatives would be cheaper and safer, but it'll destroy some part of the game.
Best Regards Woogie

I asked my friend who studies international law about this case.

* everything older than 50 years is license free (WW2 weapons, Ak47, Thompson, etc.).
* "Umarex" brand has bought lucrative license for H&K replicas, probably for names too.
* American guns are protected not only by brand license, but by U.S. government too.

Maybe i'm complicating, but i'm trying to help :)

Here's the problem...movies and other videogames have misinformed a lot of users about gun names.

Let's take a look at Skully and Shadow carrying an M4

(warning, nerding out below)

Here's the deal. A guy named Eugene Stoner invented a gun and named it the AR-15. Just like a car can have many options such as power windows, leather seats, red paint, blue paint, and still be the same gun you can take an AR-15 and put on a long barrel or a short barrel, paint it blue, paint it black, whatever, it's still an AR-15.

So the US government calls up the AR-15 maker and says "we want to buy 10,000, all with power windows, leather seats, and fire-engine red"...oh wait, it was really "we want a pencil thin barrel that is 20 inches long, and a triangular handguard." It's still an AR-15.

Now, the US government FOR THEIR OWN BOOKKEEPING, RECORDS, AND INVENTORY SYSTEM decided to name it M-16. They tend to go M-1, M-2, M-3, etc etc. When the US army bought some new D8 bulldozers from Caterpillar they named them M5. When they later bought some John Deer 5500 bulldozers, they named them M6

So what I am getting at here, unless the M4 in Shadow's hands is one he stole from the army, it isn't an M4. Heck, when the Canadians went and bought an AR-15 with the exact same feature set as the M4, they named it the C-8. (The C-7 in JA2 is the Canadian name of the M16, maybe all the AR-15s you see in Alruco are stolen from the Canadian Military...) It may be the exact same thing, but unless the US army owns it, it isn't an M4.

Names like AR-15 CAN be used in games.

Now, other weapons can be named by the type. Honestly, there isn't going to be any game difference (or any significant real world difference) between a Remington 870 Express pump action shotgun or a Mossberg 500 pump action shotgun, or a Winchester 1200 pump action shotgun or a JC Higgens pump action shotgun. It's not necessary to call it a Remington 870 in the game, you can simply call it Pump Action 12 Gauge
