Gross. No one owes you anything, sorry that you got hurt feelings on the intertubes. :(

Nah, I can't be trolled or become butthurt over the interwebs, by the people I do not know. That would not be very smart after all.

The thing is I really like the game, and I believe that Michael's postings are generally doing it more harm than good.

If you confuse professional business behaviour with me taking it personally or me "feeling that somebody owes me something" then there is not much I can do about it really.

As per request earlier in this thread I dumped the most interesting config files from the current version of BiA in this file.

I playtested modifying characters.txt and weapons.txt and it worked flawlessly, but I do nevertheless not guarantee 100% correctness of separation of the memory dump into the correct text files, since it is sometimes more guesswork than science. I did not test the other text files yet, but I was only unsure about separation of characters.txt and characters_mercs, so I believe them all to work :-)

If you still want to use these, create a folder configs in your bin_win32 folder which is inside your game installation directory. (Which should be c:\Program files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Jagged Alliance - Back in Action\ or wherever your Steam installation resides).

Extract the text files in the configs folder and edit them with your favorite plain text editor. The files are easy to comprehend and well documented. Keep in mind that every change on weapons, armor and other items applies to your enemies as well. If you plan on cheating in your favor, I suggest to edit the mercenaries in characters.txt, but be warned that this might spoil the fun that a bigger challenge presents.

Attached File  bia_103_configs.zip   52.19K   1200 downloads

Remember these files might be out of date with every patch from now on (build 1.03).
Changes take effect at the next start of the game, you do not need to start a new game.

Have fun!

Peace,
Dani

Is it possible to change the starting funds? I find it weird that You are given only $40,000 to take over an entire country.

thank you, dani! really appreciate it. the config files are really small, so is it possible for you to post all of them? there are some in this picture that i would like to edit: https://sites.google.com/site/sbobovyc/ja-bia/configs

more specifically, anything related to the ragdolls, which i would like to stop from FLYING backwards upon death.

I do not see an option to change the starting funds, but you can change the cost of your mercenaries pretty easily, or the cost of gear/items.

I have been messing with the files all day doing some tweaks. Right now for my characters.txt I have modded Fox to have a bikini top vice a tank top and doubled the starting ammo of all merc's. I also added some of the items from the files that are not in the game but are in the files to the airport merchant. Its been pretty breezy so far. I think I will likely tweak the weapons a bit more.

On a side note there is a bright pink vest in the game. It goes great with my fedora.

You're a god. So after extracting these to my /bin_win32/configs/ folder, I can just modify them at will without setting any priorities? The game will use these config files rather than the default .pak.crypt, or will I have to rename the .crypt file?

Anyone know where the game settings are stored? I've checked all the typical locations and didn't see anything. I'm hoping there might be some hidden graphics settings we can tweak, distance-fog in particular which does nothing but wash out the graphics when the camera is pulled back farther.

Also any ideas about editing store inventories (both online and local) in order to distribute new ammo or weapons?

Every character in characters.txt with an AddTradeItem entry is a shop. I'm not sure if the online one is held there too but there are plenty of shopkeepers in the game!

Can this be done for items as well?
Cause then people can just mod in infinite durability on things such as pants and shirts.
Also, does this work on the demo? :o

There's a clothing.txt but there is no Durability setting for the armor :(

This doesn't work with the demo works. It won't load configs from the win32 directory. Sorry.

Any idea how to make something exactly opposite? I mean to prevent end-tier equipment to appear at first days of the game? Or making special guns appear only late in the game or make it so rare that you would actually wish for long time to get them? Now you get great guns (i.e. vintorez) on 4th day and it's way too soon. Or maybe some special guns would be orderable at the beginning but shipment and order fulfillment would take week(s).

Looks like it. In characters.txt we have....

Character ("Barry", 0)

I'm assuming by changing the string to something else, you can name your merc. I think the number beside of the name is an ID for faction or something.

Barry used to be Character Index 0 in the previous title, too. Might be his index in the list

Ok, i tried it. But when you recruit the Merc there is still the old complete name. But in Game the new name is correct.
