First of all, hello to everyone taking his or her time to read my post.

As some other people already have posted the executable file seems to cause trouble for several reasons apparently.
Ive read all forum entries considering the .exe file crashing and how people are supposed to work around that problem.

In my case, I tried all aforementioned solutions a couple of times just to find out that my .exe still keeps on crashing
after pressing the "Start Game" button in the launcher.

Eventually I went ahead and just set the language of the game (I was invariably using English before) to German just because
I was somewhat bored at that point. So, Steam did start a short download to update certain files to the German localization.
After the download got finished, I was able to start the game properly. Everything worked out perfectly fine, I was able to
load my previously saved games, no problems occured while loading different sectors or fighting enemies.

That got me wondering what exactly forced the crash with the English version. So i made a backup of both versions, one for
the English one, another one for the German one. I kept exchanging one file at a time to find out which one caused the crash.
Turns out the ENGLISH "voices_win32.pak" causes the Crash. Just overwriting it with the GERMAN "voices_win32.pak" allows me
to start the game and play.

Now, as for me being German, that could more or less likely make me play the game again. I prefer the English voices a lot more
tho.
Maybe I could help the occasional guy with the same problem surfing the internet for hours and hours and not being able to find
a working solution.

Just for your interest by the way, I recently updated my sound drivers just as bitComposer_Michael supposed in another thread.
And I am of course ;-) a Windows 7 64-Bit user.

Got two questions:

• Did those steps you tried before include verifying the local files of the installation?
  
• Did you try to switch back to English and see if it still crashes?

The reason I am asking is that it would be interesting to know if the English voices_win32.pak is faulty from the start or if it got corrupted at some point.

Yes and yes, several times.

Edit:
Just to be clear, I already played the game over 100 hours (a lot idle time tho) when the error
occured. In English only.

Well i am about to try it, but if it works the I must say to bitcomposer:" I am not playing this great game with goddamn german voices, so you guys gotta fix this problem pronto!"
