This is pretty close to what I was thinking too. Xcom but with Mercs and no Aliens. I always wanted a game that let you do missions in conflict areas, like assassinations, search&destroy, PSDs, search&retrieve, and just about any real or feasible Merc missions. I love JA2, but to me it wasnt feasible to send in a group of 3-5 Mercs to basically support a rebellion for a week or so, then just have to let more mercs dribble in as you can afford them.

Wages of War felt a little more like a "Merc" game. It was too linear as you played 15 missions with only one branch in the line. It had the worst UI and was FULL turned based. Also if your Merc was hit too hard, you had to stabalize them and sometimes they could get back in the fight but most times you had to carry them out of the mission. Then they would be unavailable for about 2 missions.

I really like where you are going with this. I think Plan&Go would fit in really well; however I am not sure you could do it with JA franchise or they would need to create another 40 mercs, and probably drop the "hate" part of the relationships. I would love to see a more XCOM approach where you have to upgrade your "base" equipment. Rent or purchase UAVs, Helos, Intel, etc.

I would take a graphics hit to if the maps could be randomly generated.

I think this should be displayed with a briefing to the developers, definitely...
These are precisely what we were trying to wish from them!

I want THESE in the game!

This might not be a bad idea, judging from the success of Double Fine Adventure kickstart. Their set goal of 40k USD was achieved in a couple of hours, and atm the sum is over 2,3 MILLION dollars. Smaller publishers and game makers should take notes.
Ofcourse, they would have to be willing to do stuff this way, to be in constant touch with the community, and really listen and work with the fans.

Some words on this topic from Michael would be appreciated.

What I would like, and may be dreaming on like delray said, is something similar to your idea.

A game with JA2 depth, atmosphere and weapon realism, JABIA 3d engine (extensively optimized), playing out on a global scale. Game would have to be polished and with a lot of attention to details, as that made all the difference in JA2.

I bet that the whole jagged alliance community would be very happy with a game like that and would contribute massively, and I'm not just talking about the money.

JABIA 3d engine

I am kind of wondering why the engine gets so much praise. There is quite a number of games that have better graphics than JABIA. Just take Hired Guns - The Jagged Edge: Very colourful graphics, better performance than JABIA, grass and bushes that move in the wind and under the soldiers' feet, and so on. The engine is already 4 years old, by the way, yet it features stuff I can only dream of in JABIA.

As I recall the Jagged Edge was buggy as all heck, so I suspect that is why it isn't popular choice of 3d engine. Using JA:BIA engine would be questionable without a fully destructible environment and the ability to climb over or through things and crawl under stuff. The main thing in its favour is that it seems fairly stable. Most people serious about tactical games consider that while a reasonable 3d engine is nice its the way the game works that matters most, so for that matter you could use Silent Storm (if it's possible to get it, which I heard someplace that it isn't).

So what will this game be called?

"The Jagged 7.62 StormEdge: Silently Back In Dreamland"?

I suspect the rights to any similar sounding names are very well 'reserved'.

If you ever make this I will buy a copy. I wish you all the best with it.

Well, the Unreal Engine is also stable. And it's free. And allows for better graphics. And better physics. And it comes with an extensive set of development tools. Everyone can download it at http://www.udk.com/. You only have to pay for it if you use it commercially (ergo: sell the game for money) AND your revenue exceeds 50.000 US-$ -- in that case the license fee is 25% of the revenue. I assume it's capable of (turn based) tactical games, but people of course prefer to develop shooters....

Edit: Obviously Tom Clancy's Endwar has been made with an earlier version of the Unreal Engine, so strategy / tactical games are possible with it. The video shows scenes from the game that feature destructible environment and some infantry tactics:

Egad Man! Hired guns had no horizon or world skirt. Just a small chunk of earth floating in a dark abyss. Albeit the Matrix release of Hired guns was pretty much bug free.

I took some pretty nice screen captures of of JABIA such as the swamp with the water falls, I thought these were graphically appealing, I am not saying it is cutting edge but just very appealing. Also the contiguous sectors are a great concept. Actually being able to walk from one sector to another within the gameworld is simulated well, even if it is only certain areas. This makes some of the action take place in a 2km square area. Just saying some things were done well and light years beyond hired guns.

When I try to imagine Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13 ported to the Unreal Engine... I just JAgasmed

I hope it happens, or the remake suggested in this thread.

il tell you what guys i have been really motivated by what i read... it seams that some of you are really serious about buying this if it ever was made.... So il put a video together regarding how it will all go together .
I guess the budget from what i can calculate is around $2.0 m . preferable 3 . i know its a long shoot but what do i have to loose . At least i gave it a go.

And if we do manage to get the number of backers for this then unreal engine it is . but wont be doing it through kickstarters as 5%(actually 10 when all fees are calculated ) is alot of money waisted that could be used for production .

@ mr31337 Yes i have a name for it but will hold on to it for now .

Maybe if i can raise an amount high enough maybe bitcomposer will come knocking on my door . would prefer if that would happen.

1: will try to release a video on how the it will go together also il create a system where all the finance from the backers will be tracked also including volenteers aka programers and modders can join as they will be key to tweak the details and iron out the bugs.
2: if all goes well , will release a part 2 of the remake which will include many more features.( hopefully by then can get somebody to help with it so it looks more presentable :P)
3: and if that goes well ... then you can say the rest is history :);)

ooooo and if by any chance we over shoot the budget then i guess i have no choice but to release a part 3 :P:D
