He means it's a pipe-dream, something that won't come true no matter how much you want/wish for it. :(
A bunch of nice ideas though. ^_^

i do like the idea of this,

is this supposed to be an idea of a complete remake or just a mod?

but i cant see why this couldnt just be a mod or bunch of mods

but if this is just a dream video and not a WIP video, i have my doubts ill see this anytime in the near future

il tell you what guys i have been really motivated by what i read... it seams that some of you are really serious about buying this if it ever was made.... So il put a video together regarding how it will all go together .
I guess the budget from what i can calculate is around $2.0 m . preferable 3 . i know its a long shoot but what do i have to loose . At least i gave it a go.

And if we do manage to get the number of backers for this then unreal engine it is . but wont be doing it through kickstarters as 5%(actually 10 when all fees are calculated ) is alot of money waisted that could be used for production .

@ mr31337 Yes i have a name for it but will hold on to it for now .

Maybe if i can raise an amount high enough maybe bitcomposer will come knocking on my door . would prefer if that would happen.

1: will try to release a video on how the it will go together also il create a system where all the finance from the backers will be tracked also including volenteers aka programers and modders can join as they will be key to tweak the details and iron out the bugs.
2: if all goes well , will release a part 2 of the remake which will include many more features.( hopefully by then can get somebody to help with it so it looks more presentable :P)
3: and if that goes well ... then you can say the rest is history :);)

ooooo and if by any chance we over shoot the budget then i guess i have no choice but to release a part 3 :P:D

Nice to see all the effort here, but if you are thinking of making a game without a real developer and/or publisher, then it really is a pipe dream..
The way I see it, it would happen only if bitcomposer would be willing to participate in this. If they plan to make another game in JA series at all, that is.
Maybe a poll should be made regarding the kickstart and potential new game based on ideas here.

Unfortunately these guys are right. Unless you, yourself are a great programmer or know a slew of good programmers, this is just a nice dream. Although it is a really good one. Ive have 3-4 Mercenary type games floating in my head, evolving over the years, but I dont have the skills, friends, or resources to make any of them become a reality.

This has been my absolute favorite genre. I've tried/played almost every game in the genre (not a huge fan of aliens) and I have even played games that are remotely similar like Mount&Blade, Soldiers Heroes of WW2, and Men of War Assault Squad. I've always hoped the next game was perfect, but all of them have flaws or overlooked potential. I usually just chalk it up to lack of vision, lack of resources, or pure laziness on either the developer or publisher or both.

Unfortunately, BiA falls into one or more of these categories at release and up to now. The game is raw and underdeveloped; however sometimes the game is fun, but always lingering in the back of your mind is the frustration of "why isnt this <feature> in the game?" I am not a 1.13 fanboy and not really a fan of that mod, but even when compared to older games in the genre BiA lacks depth.

TBH, most games today are like this. Just I am more passionate about this genre of games. I think to make a great game of the genre will take an independent developer as their games typically break the molds.

Anyway, best of luck to you Im@rtAl, I really hope you can be that developer because so far I like the game you have envisioned.

A JA-style total conversion for this, and I'd be happy: http://www.gamersglobal.de/video/gg-angetestet-xcom-enemy-unknown
The video is in German, but the gameplay scenes speak for themselves, I guess.

The game is turn based, it looks great and seems to have really interesting game mechanics.

the 3d cut-scene spawning is horrible. glam cam? awful.
also scale is very smallish and designs look sluggish.

http://www.xenonauts.com/ seems better at recreating X-com. it's isometric, so the tactical overview is much better compared to the 3d mess in the video. JA full conversion on top of this might be the better game. But also shit tons of work. :(

Looks gorgeous! I am also thrilled to see the new base type in this X-COM; do you have any information for when it would be released?

'Fall 2012' is the only clue at the moment.

That you seem to think that you came up with completely new ideas and even call them a 'remake' you released while all it is is a video of a basic concept
And even funnier is that you seem to infer that they have taken ideas from you while you seem to be completely oblivious of the original X-Com games <_<

Overall I must say: cant tell if serious

ahhh... the good old days.
Swapping floppies with friends at school... a full box of 3.5" disks for one game only to find that one disk had a read error
Or even further back... copying tapes with programs on them on my fathers double tape deck
...am I glad those times have passed ;)

Anyway... its good that you said that a little clearer.
Because in the other post you really made it sound like the Dev's of the new X-Com game may have seen your video and taken ideas from it.
And I was really not able to tell if that was what you wanted to say or maybe it was in a joking way...
...or, as you said, that you just think its cool that someone is making a game that has some of the elements you put into the video.
But thats what we get for having a different language than English as our first language I guess. ;)
